Drivers of Indigenous Entrepreneurship for Climate Adaptation
Completed
Title: Entrepreneurship-based factors to foster climate adaptation among Indigenous communities (2022-2024)
This project explores how Indigenous communities develop entrepreneurial responses to climate change, integrating traditional ecological knowledge with business strategies. Conventional entrepreneurship theories overlook Indigenous approaches that prioritize community well-being and environmental stewardship. Through a systematic literature review (65 articles) and a case study of six Sri Lankan Vedda communities, we identified 15 key drivers shaping Indigenous climate-adaptive ventures across five themes: place-based relationships, intergenerational learning, community institutions, collective capacity, and culturally aligned strategies. Our findings offer insights for policymakers and practitioners to support Indigenous-led climate adaptation strategies that reinforce cultural values, environmental sustainability, and community resilience.
