Resilience-based Steps for Adaptive Co-management of Arctic Small-Scale Fisheries

Completed

Title: The Marine Arctic Resilience, Adaptations, and Transformations (MARAT) (2020-2022)

Eranga contributed to this project as a research professional specializing in Arctic Indigenous fisheries. He co-led a study with Marianne Falardeau, Jean-Sebastien Moore, and the team to develop resilience-based steps for adaptive co-management of Arctic small-scale fisheries. This study was part of the Marine Arctic Resilience, Adaptations, and Transformations (MARAT) project, funded by the Belmont Forum. MARAT integrates modeling, local knowledge, and comparative case studies to assess the resilience of Arctic marine food webs under climate change and fishing pressures, exploring how communities adapt or transform in response. The project applies interdisciplinary methods from both natural and social sciences, incorporating perspectives from local communities, national agencies, and multilateral institutions focused on sustainable fisheries. Led by Dr. Juan Rocha and his team, MARAT aims to inform sustainable fisheries management strategies.
